In this video I am showing you some advanced settings for GoPro Hero 8 Cinematography!
Anamorphic Settings:
Most Hollywood movies are shot with anamorphic lenses and to get this cinematic look for your GoPro Hero 8 you can use a little field of view trick. If you don't need cinematic slow motion shots, you can change your GoPro Hero 8 settings to SuperView. This gives you an extremely wide image with a huge fish eye effect, but in this GoPro Hero 8 tutorial I also show you how to get rid of it. Then you need to add black bars for the cinematic anamorphic crop and you are done. 4K 30FPS in SuperView is my favorite GoPro Hero 8 setting.
Fish Eye Settings:
Another trick, how you can make your GoPro Hero 8 videos look more cinematic, is choosing the right field of view option in the right situation. For example for underwater shots with your GoPro Hero 8, you don't get any fish eye effect, so I recommend you to shoot with the widest field of view possible, for the GoPro Hero 8 settings you are currently using, to get the most amount of movement in front of your lens. This will make your GoPro Hero 8 footage look more cinematic.
On the other hand, if you are shooting cinematic GoPro videos in an area with a lot of straight lines, I recommend you to choose the linear field of view setting, or as mentioned above, the widest one and edit the fish eye effect later in post to get an even more cinematic look.
Speed Ramp Settings:
Speed ramps look really cinematic in cinematic GoPro Hero 8 edits. Speed ramps are very easy to use and my recommended GoPro Hero 8 settings for those kind of cinematic shots is 4K with 60 frames per second and I tell you exactly why in this GoPro Hero 8 settings tutorial.
Instagram Settings:
If you want to make cinematic Instagram videos with your GoPro Hero 8, then you need to change your GoPro Hero 8 settings to the 4:3 aspect ratio. As Instagram videos are mostly watched vertically, you need to change your aspect ratio, so that your GoPro Hero 8 videos can be edited more cinematic for vertical videos. Just be aware, that whenever you want to shoot GoPro Hero 8 videos for Youtube, you have to change your GoPro Hero 8 settings back to the 16:9 aspect ratio to get the most cinematic result possible.
Time Warp Settings:
The time warp I am showing you in this GoPro Hero 8 tutorial might not be the most cinematic one, but it's one you don't see very often. Uncommon shots can make your GoPro Hero 8 footage look more cinematic because they are "special" and that's why I am showing you this specific GoPro Heor 8 time warp in this tutorial. As a general and very important rule, always take your GoPro Hero 8 time warps with 30x speed in 4K.
