Freshening up our container soil!
Finally past last frost and time to reinvigorate the potting soil in the containers! It’s totally fine to reuse the same soil every year but I’ll give it a boost before planting (you could also do this even if you’ve already planted)—our in ground soil has the benefit of being able to utilize the soil life more effectively than containers, as containers are subject to some rough conditions over winter like extreme temperatures and moisture swings!
So in spring I add in some things like wool pellets (for slow release nitrogen and moisture retention) and some mycorrhizae., which will form associations with the roots and help them uptake nutrients and water more effectively.
Then i plant! I always include a native plant to benefit our native pollinators, and focus on colors and a variety of textures.
