Creating data graphics in Microsoft Visio involves several steps. First, you need to create shape data for the shapes you want to display data on. This could include information such as type, year, model, cost price, sale price, and status. Once you have your shape data, you can create a new data graphic by adding new items for each shape data field. You'll choose the display type for each—text, icon set, data bar, or color by value—and decide on the position of the data graphic on or around the shape. After applying the data graphic to the shapes, you'll see the data change according to the shape data values.
To create a stencil, which is a collection of shapes used in Visio drawings, you start by creating a new stencil and adding shapes from other stencils or the drawing page. You can then rename and edit these shapes, save the stencil for later use, and share it with others. It's also possible to create a custom stencil by copying shapes from other stencils, modifying them as needed, and saving your new stencil.
Linking shapes to Excel in Visio allows for dynamic data updates within your diagrams. To link data from Excel to Visio, you can use the Data Selector Wizard to import data from an Excel worksheet. Then, use the Automatic Link Wizard to match rows in the data source with shapes in your drawing. This way, when you update the data in Excel, you can refresh the data in Visio to see the changes reflected in your diagram.
These processes enable you to create visually compelling and data-rich diagrams in Microsoft Visio, enhancing both the presentation and the utility of your diagrams. By linking shapes to Excel, you ensure that your diagrams are always up-to-date with the latest data, providing a powerful tool for data visualization and analysis.
