Nozomi Sato - Street Photographer
Nozomi Sato is unique because she’s a street photographer and a model and female. She’s also originally from Japan so she has a different perspective than most Canadian photographers do.
I followed her around one night as she did some street photography and it was very interesting to see how she saw the world. She’s very confident, knows what she’s looking for, and is not afraid to shoot. This is a good combination for a street photographer because you have to be willing to take up space if you want to get the shot. The act of creation requires the key ingredient of “doing.” The knowing is locked inside the doing. You have to get out there and take the shot, or you will never find out who you are or what you want.
Nozomi’s willingness to bring a tripod and shoot with it was very interesting because you really attract attention when you do that. It’s a bold creative statement. She also dresses very fashionable, which I admire as well. Because in addition to being another statement she’s also making a contribution to the street. I dress poorly and try to blend in and quietly document the world, but Nozomi is choosing to see and be seen. She’s choosing to be a part of the street that she’s shooting.
