Every country has its little quirks, some good and some not so good. America is no exception and if you’re an out of towner, you might find some of these a little irregular. Or, if you’re American and you’re travelling abroad, it might surprise you that things are done a little differently elsewhere.

8 - Such a tease
Iced Tea is a huge deal in America, and some places will serve their iced tea with ice cubes made of iced tea, so it doesn’t water down your iced tea. That’s how seriously they take their iced tea!
7 - American Black Friday
This used to be exclusively American, but it’s also taking off in other countries. Black Friday sees Americans queuing up from Thanksgiving Day just to bag some great deals! You’ll often see reports featuring Black Friday fights between shoppers, mob scenes and heated tempers. Grab your popcorn and enjoy the show!
6 - Fast Food
Eating out at a restaurant in America is very different from eating out elsewhere. You’re in and out in a breeze compared to eating out in restaurants abroad. Eating out in Europe is an event, and you’re in no rush to go anywhere. In America, it’s anything from 45-minutes to an hour and a half, and anything over that is considered rude, according to some people.
5 - Remove your shoes
Most European countries remove their shoes before walking around their homes. Americans don’t generally do this. It seems that walking around the house with your shoes on is not the norm, and anyway, why would you want to trudge all the outside dirt and germs through your house?
4 - The nearest bathroom
Travelling abroad for American’s is often a real eye-opener, and one thing American’s are not used to, are the lack of “free” restrooms to use. In America, there is always a restroom nearby and you hardly ever pay to use them. In London, for example, I once paid a pound to use the loo at Selfridges.
3 - Eat Up
The Girl Scout Scouts of the USA and Girl Scout Cookies go hand-in-hand, and there is nowhere else in the world where you can find these heavenly bites of deliciousness! If you’ve left the USA to live abroad, you’re probably wishing for a box right now, as everybody has their favourite favourite!
2 - Heaven
S’mores… do I need to say more? If you enjoy a bonfire in another country, don’t be left aghast when they merely open the bag of marshmallows and melt them on sticks in the fire, S’mores are only big in America! Lucky Americans!
