After three unsuccessful attempts to liberate the city, following the results of the defeat of the German troops on the Kursk Bulge in August 1943, Operation Rumyantsev was carried out, which led to the final liberation of Kharkov. Despite the fact that the operation was officially completed on August 23, immediately after Konev's report to Headquarters, the fighting for the part of the city that remained with the Germans continued for another week until the 30th. As a result of Operation Rumyantsev, 15 enemy divisions were defeated, including 4 tank divisions. For courage and courage shown during the liberation of Kharkov, ten rifle divisions of the Steppe Front were given the name "Kharkov"
