Welcome back to Virtual Visa Cards
In this video we will upgrade TP-Link WiFi router TL-WR841ND from 32M RAM to 64M
And we are not using any special tools such as hot air gun which is not everyone can have
Instead, we will use X-ACTO knife to combine ART and TECHNOLOGY
First we will unbox a brand new TP-Link WiFI router TL-WR841ND Ver: 11.1
TL-WR841ND have 2 detachable antennas, 4 Port 100/10 Switch, 1 Port 100/10 Wan Interface, 4 MB Flash, 32 MB Ram
TL-WR841ND Ver: 11.1 has QCA9533-AL3A CPU running at 650 MHz
And this router have 4M flash chip and RAM chip is Winbond W9425G6JH-5 which is 32MB
I will mod this router with a Hynix HY5DU121622CTP-D43 64M RAM chip
You can get this chip from Hynix DDR SO-DIMM PC2700S-25330 512MB DDR 333MHz CL 2.5
Now we can open the router's case which is secured by 2 screws
To open the case without destroying it, we will use plastic card such as old credit card
You can easily open latches in side the case with plastic card
We can see the router board now and we will mod the Winbond W9425G6JH-5 RAM chip
I will put it under my magnifying glass so you can see it clearly
This is TSOP2-66 chip which is 66 pins
Those pins is so small so it is not easy to de-solder it from the board without special tools
Normally, I will use my hot air gun to desoler RAM chip from router board
But in this mod, I will guide you to do it with simple tools which is art knife
So amateurs or people can not afford professional tools can also experience the mod
The PINs are so small so you can easily cut one by one, be patients and do it carefully please
Let me do my first cut and see how
You can see the first pin is cut
We will continue cutting
finish side is done
Almost all pins were cut
Now we change to other side
The other side was pre-cut so we can bend the chip out of the board now
The chip is now "DE-SOLDERED" or cut out of the board. I will not re-use this chip so it can go to trash.
I will change old Winbond W9425G6JH-5 32MB RAM chip with new HY5DU121622CTP-D43 64MB one so my router will have 64MB RAM
We will now clean up the pins' remaining and pre-tin router board
Now we will put the new RAM chip and align it to the board. It is importance to do it righ
Or you will have to cut it away if you solder it wrongly. You need to use hot air gun to de-solder because you need the 64MB chip
First time is not easy, but we will be familiar as long as we do it several times
I ussually check it with my magnifying glass
Now we will solder RAM chip to the board
The pins are pre-tin already so it is easy to drag
You can have some professional tools to do it but the point here is simple tools so anyone can do it
My board look OK just like we do nothing with it
Anyway we can check if there is any join
Before power on, I will clean all the dust if any
Led pattern show that my router is working now
TP-LINK original firmware does not show RAM information so I will flash this TL-WR841N with OpenWrt firmware
TP-LINK TL-WR841N Ver:11.1 WiFi router is not supported yet so you can try the DD trunk then "upgrade" it with Ver: 10 firmware
Wait for it to reboot
Now my WiFi router is running with 64MB RAM
I would like to check system log and kener log, there is no problem running with my new 64MB RAM chip
Thank you for watching, please subscribe and give your comment if any
