The FLEXAFIT Fundamentals program curriculum focuses on four key areas: Spins & Edges, Jumps & Plyometrics, Strength & Conditioning, and Flexibility & Mobility, teaching you foundational skills through progressive exercises.
What is the FLEXAFIT Skills Curriculum?
The FLEXAFIT Skills Curriculum is designed to help you build a strong foundation in figure skating. This structured program will guide you through key areas of skating technique and fitness, helping you progress step by step. With a focus on both physical and technical skills, the curriculum is divided into four key pillars:
Spins & Edges
Learn to master the basics of skating, focusing on proper foot placement, weight transfer, and body alignment. You'll work on essential moves like upright spins, sit spins, and camel spins—both forward and backward—ensuring you build a strong foundation before moving on to more advanced techniques.
Jumps & Plyometrics
Jumping is a critical part of skating, and this pillar will teach you correct technique from take-off to landing. You’ll also perform plyometric exercises to help increase the height and distance of your jumps. Starting with single jumps (waltz/axel, salchow, toe loop, loop, flip, and lutz), you’ll advance to doubles as your skills improve.
Strength & Conditioning
To be a strong skater, you need more than just technical skills. This part of the program focuses on improving your strength, agility, balance, and endurance. You’ll work through a series of exercises designed specifically for figure skaters, with six progressive levels that match your current strength and fitness level.
Flexibility & Mobility
Flexibility and mobility are key to performing beautiful skating moves and avoiding injury. You’ll learn how to stretch properly, improve your flexibility, and increase your range of motion for moves like spirals, Y spins, laybacks, and spread eagles. The curriculum will also teach you how to listen to your body and stretch safely.
The FLEXAFIT Skills Curriculum gives you a clear path to follow, helping you improve your skating step by step while building long-term strength, flexibility, and technique.
