In the middle of the last century, many folklore groups were created in Czechoslovakia, focused on folk music, songs and dances. An authentic presentation required the use of historical country costumes.
This hobby is not a cheap thing, that's why these groups needed support - from companies, the state and sometimes even from the army.
Dances stand out best in larger groups when everyone looks as similar as possible - for girls with different hairstyles, this can easily be achieved by all wearing the same headscarves.
Slovak dances are often very wild and require good physical condition, mobility and long practice. All this led in several cases to the creation of professional groups, into which ballet dancers from theaters often moved, and the musicians in these groups are also professionals - the most famous such group is the Slovak "Lúčnica" so far.
In addition to performing in front of audiences and at various festivals, they also filmed several feature films - see a sample from one of them.
The costumes of the dancers gradually began to deviate from a fully authentic appearance (very difficult to obtain) and became more simplified "mainly so that you can dance well in them".
However, traditional headscarves have sometimes survived to this day and are suitable for girls.
Although today some of the dance demonstrations are more like actobation, it is still a beautiful spectacle.
