IOT based Smart Cooling Helmet using Peltier Module
Description
In this project Arduino monitors temperature and humidity via DHT-11. When the surrounding temperature is more then 25 degree, it activates a relay to power a 12V Peltier module for cooling. The Peltier module cools the helmet's interior, while a heat sink and 12V fan help manage excess heat. A 5V fan spreads the cool air inside the helmet. The relay deactivates the Peltier module once its temperature drops below 25°C, and the cycle continues to maintain comfort.
Objectives
Temperature Regulation
To maintain a comfortable temperature inside the helmet by using a Peltier module. Activate and deactivate the cooling system based on temperature thresholds to ensure consistent comfort.
Cooling Control
To implement an automated system using an Arduino and sensors (DHT11 and LM35) to monitor surroundings and module temperatures. Trigger the cooling process when needed and turn it off when the desired temperature is reached.
Heat Dissipation
To use a heat sink and a 12V DC fan to dissipate heat generated by the Peltier module enhancing the overall cooling performance
Power Management
To ensure the system operates efficiently with minimal power consumption.
Working
This project begins with the activation of the battery, which supplies power to the entire circuit. A 7805-voltage regulator t steps down the battery voltage to provide a stable 5V, which is important for powering the Arduino and other components. Once powered, the Arduino initializes and starts executing the code. It continuously monitors temperature and humidity of the surroundings using the DHT11 sensor and the temperature of the Peltier module’s top surface with the LM35 sensor. When the surroundings temperature reaches 25°C, the Arduino activates a relay, which in turn powers the 12V Peltier module. As the Peltier module starts working, its top surface cools while its bottom surface heats up. A heat sink mounted between the Peltier module and a 12V DC fan helps dissipate the heat, enhancing the cooling efficiency. Simultaneously, a 5V DC fan spreads cold air into the helmet to provide cooling inside it. As the Peltier module’s top surface temperature reaches below 18°C, the Arduino deactivates the relay, turning off the Peltier module and the 12V fan. The system will again reactivate the cooling process when the temperature rises back to 25°C, ensuring comfort for the helmet wearer.
