For the first time ever, I tried hardcore in PoE, and because of my infinite wisdom I decided to have my first HC experience in the Runic Gauntlet. Here’s how that went.
This video is structured into three parts. In the Introduction section, I’ll go over what lured me into trying the Gauntlet this time. In the second section, the playthrough, I’ll cover how far I got, some of the finds, the near-deaths, the actual deaths, etcetera. And in the third and final part, I’ll reflect on my experiences and hardcore mode as a beginner.
I’ve followed along many Gauntlets, always watched the videos on it, I feel it’s great entertainment. Never did I feel the need to participate, as the idea of losing a character you’ve spent many hours on, didn’t appeal to me. And it still doesn’t. Because it sucks. That being said, there’s a certain charm to hardcore too, especially combined with SSF.
I’m not entirely sure what prompted me to try the gauntlet this time. It has to do with how well the channel’s been doing lately, and I’m simply looking for enjoyable gameplay and strategies and builds to make content about. Which so far, works quite well. I thought the Gauntlet might be another venue to pursue. I’m happy just playing Path of Exile for the most part, and with hardcore, ruthless which is something I’ve never tried, and PoE 2 coming up, it’s possible you don’t need to play any other game ever again. Which I’m fine with, really. Lily joked that the top 5 ARPGs is just the 5 different versions of PoE. And she’s right.
Back to the gauntlet. There was a certain curiosity as well, wanting to experience how brutal such a gauntlet is. As it turns out, very brutal. So, I made a character.
