For this purpose, a small and quiet stray dog named Laika from the city of Moscow was selected. Scientists wished to establish how cosmonautics would affect living organisms, but even then the technology in use could not guarantee the animal would return home safely, presenting significant moral dilemmas concerning animal testing in science.
In the video, we analyze the appreciated technological achievements made to accomplish this first mission, its objectives, and the audience’s response to Laika’s orbital flight. We shall also consider how her mission aided in the furtherance of space travel, and in particular, how it was relevant to the American side of the space race. And now, we will turn the hands of time back to 1957 which was quite an adventurous and adventurous time in, remembering the courageous canine Laika, who very much symbolized the times.
