Labour MP apologises for renting out mouldy and ant-infested flats | LBC
An investigation has found a newly-elected Labour MP has been renting out properties infested with ants and ridden with black mould, according to reports.
Jas Athwal, who owns 15 residential properties has said he is "shocked" and "profoundly sorry".
James O'Brien says the story 'doesn't appear to be attracting the negative attention' the Labour leader Keir Starmer received for removing a Margaret Thatcher painting, or Angela Rayner for dancing.
'When he was the Leader of Redbridge Council, he introduced legislation that required landlords to have licences, that would I think have involved the properties being checked for precisely the sort of problems that they had", he added.
James continued: "Despite being the one who introduced the rules, he wasn't obeying them.
"So he didn't have the correct property licences that were required under a scheme he introduced as Redbridge council Leader, and he claimed originally that he had."
