In this demo, the EMU Emulator II VST plugin plays the main riff.
The software I'm using is Cubase 12. To make the demo I took a MIDI file and started swapping out the instruments for my own VSTs.

I then look for the strongest section of the track. I then strip out the lead riff and any main riffs and get to work on those sub-riffs that often get forgotten about in the full mix (for non-musicians, we musicians hear everything, I hope.)
I now turn my attention to the Drums. Using EZ Drummer with a number of kits (from which you can swap drums around from any sound in your library), I come up with a new drum sound.
I then play around with effects, particularly reverb. It makes such a difference, but also EQ, compression, chorus, delay, and random effects to make it interesting (like distortion, ping pong delays, guitar rig 6 settings, etc).
Finally, I may add my own riffs or singing too. The idea here is to demo the synth sound rather than put pressure on myself to create brand-new music. (You'll find that elsewhere on the channel)
I'm not mastering these demos, but they seem to be good enough for a demo, so I hope you like it.
