How to make a light activated switch (DIY circuit)

A photoresistor is an electronic component whose resistance depends on how much light is shining on it. It has low resistance in bright light and high resistance in low light. We can use this property to create a light-activated switch or a circuit that turns on in the dark.
The electronic circuit is made of three key elements: a load (e.g. LEDs), a transistor that turns them on, and a voltage divider comprised of the photoresitor and a fixed resistor. Alternatively, the fixed resistor can be replaced with a potentiometer to adjust the sensitivity of the circuit.
The light-activated circuit can also be made using an operational amplifier, as described in the video. The voltage divider part can be paired with an Arduino to make an automatic light switch or a device that detects different levels of light illumination.
