A short introduction to new M:TG players describing how to go around with wishlists and getting singles for their decks.
If you're new to the world of Magic: The Gathering, you might feel a little bit confused about how and why some places offer the same product at a much higher price than others. You might also wonder how other players find it easy to get the singles they need for their decks fast and without overpaying for them.
A lot of people use Facebook's marketplace for that, but it mostly works locally and mainly for popular cards in Standard or generally cards from recent sets. For more specific deckbuilding there's actually a perfect place, and it's called Cardmarket.
Here you don't buy from a certain company offering you singles. On this website not only stores but also players themselves list the cards they have and want to sell. Finding the specific cards you want to buy is very easy, and you can even construct a bunch of your own different wantlists.
It's important to mention that having an account there is free. Basically choose your username, password, set the country your from and the user who referred you. In this case you can put in Rimfire since that's my username on there, and you're set to go.
Browse for the card you want, click on the filters to match the language you want it in and its condition, then choose from the sellers who have it in their inventory. You can check the opinions for previous sales from that person, always be wary of that "incorrect card grading" remark and if that is mentioned more than once you might want to reconsider that seller and find a different one.
The cards are graded by their condition and a reference page is available, so you know exactly what you should be getting. You can also contact the sellers and ask for card photos or scans. The great thing about Cardmarket is, each user's profile is their own store display for the cards they have, you can browse and add to the basket.
When buying boosters, precon decks and all kinds of accessories keep in mind that the more the store gets, the better the deal they get as well. In other words, a small store's stock is usually very limited and pricy compared to when you buy online, and sometimes ordering from abroad can still offer you better prices than your local store, even with international shipping. Some stores though do have an online store set up, and their prices both online and locally tend to be much lower than at the stores that have small amounts of stock and only offer local sales.
A lot of small LGS stores like that have grown into major players that offer pretty low prices and a lot of sets to choose from. There's also a high chance that if you want to buy a lot of product, you'll get a hefty rebate as well. Bigger online stores also have some nice sales going for product that for example gets rotated out or doesn't do very well, but it so happens you'd like to get it. It's worth to check for these kinds of deals even from stores where the product doesn't seem inexpensive at regular price.
