Argiope lobata spider on the territory of the former USSR, it lives in its European part, in the Crimea, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Kazakhstan, in the southern regions of Russia. It mainly inhabits deserts, semi-deserts, and steppes.
It also lives in North Africa (Algeria).
That's what Wikipedia says.
This spider should not live in our Vyazemsky district of the Smolensk region. But here it lives.
There is nothing terrible in this, argyope is not dangerous for people and pets. It's just an unusual spider of a rather large size for our area.
