Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Three-For-All with the 200th Episode Special. I seriously can't believe that I've filmed that many videos for this series on my channel, but here we are - so let's dive in!
This episode not only celebrates the Three-For-All series, but we're also hitting an important concept/approach you should remember and use whenever you learn licks, phrases, and music in general on the guitar. This concept surrounds the seemingly lost art of making variations and building altered versions of the original source material.
The basis for this episode came from part of a riff found in the eternal Whitesnake classic Still Of The Night, and I remember working on that song back in the day and stumbling across the general concept shared in this lesson. Once the initial motif is shared, you'll find that we're creating variations of that idea in seemingly random ways. From picking, legato, sliding, bending, tapping, open string usage, and more - this conceptual approach can easily turn one lick or phrase into hundreds (if not thousands) of additional ideas.
