Finding film investors in Los Angeles is like finding a needle in a haystack... Especially when we're talking about private equity investors for independent feature films, which are not studio projects. I'm referring to HNIs (high net-worth individuals) who will give you money for your indie film.
Most people working in the film business in Los Angeles are also trying to fund their projects. As a result, the competition for money is fierce. So in most cases, you are better off pitching high net-worth individuals who do not work in the entertainment industry outside of Los Angeles.
It's been my experience that pitching film investors outside Los Angeles give filmmakers the best chance for success. Investors who work outside of LA are not as entrenched in the industry, so they are more likely to find your idea novel and interesting.
