I was thinking of making a tutorial, but surely there are better explanations on how to use this guy out there. Instead, I recorded a jam to show the sounds this small, but truly powerful synth can make.
I threw some drum samples in Ableton and add a little delay. No other processing.
My audio interface was sending the MIDI signal to the Volca Bass, vía a MIDI cable. The audio was sent to the interface with a Mini Jack - Jack 3.5 cable. You have to use the headphone output. It may sound a little low, and when you crank it, it will make some noise, but decent.
This is an extraordinary machine for the price. This is a great option if you can't afford a big or mid-sized synth. Real analog sound. You can make good-sounding pads or very acid tones. To manipulate it you require to read the manual and watch some tutorials to take out the best of it. Take the time for that. Is very common to buy some gear, tweak some things and move others without really understanding the gear, and then we let them die in the dust.
Also, you can sample the signal and manipulate it in your DAW and your MIDI keyboard which will produce a better sound than cheap VSTs.
Probably, I'll get the Volca Keys soon to check it out. And the Volca Bass will stay in this studio. No doubt about it.
