Marlys Cocozzoli was an avid sewer who had a deep love for her craft. One day, she noticed that she lost muscle control on her right side, making it very difficult to finish projects. Within five minutes of talking with her doctor, he determined that she had Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson's disease is a slowly progressive disorder of the brain that can cause tremors, rigidity, difficulty walking, imbalance and slowing down. Movement disorders specialist Julia Staisch, MD, determined that a treatment called deep brain stimulation was right for Marlys. Marlys is now back on her feet, enjoying life and getting back to what she loves best.
