Navisworks' sectioning tools allow you to create cross-sections of your model for better visualization, analysis, and coordination. Here's an overview of how to use the sectioning feature in Navisworks:
1. Accessing Sectioning Tools
Home Tab: Navigate to the "Home" tab, and find the "Sectioning" panel.
Viewpoint Tab: Alternatively, you can access sectioning tools under the "Viewpoint" tab.
2. Types of Sections
Plane: Create a section using a single plane to cut through the model.
Box: Define a section by a 3D box, allowing you to cut out a cubic portion of the model.
Volume: Similar to a box section but allows for more complex shapes.
3. Creating a Section Plane
Click on the "Sectioning" button in the panel.
Choose the “Plane” option.
You can position and adjust the plane using the gizmo or the X, Y, Z controls in the Sectioning panel.
You can also rotate the plane using the rotation handles on the gizmo.
4. Creating a Section Box
Select the "Box" option from the sectioning tools.
Adjust the box size by dragging the edges of the box.
Move and rotate the section box using the gizmo or the X, Y, Z controls.
5. Section View Controls
Enable Sectioning: Ensure that sectioning is enabled by clicking on the section plane or box in the model.
Section Planes: You can add multiple section planes by using the "Add Section Plane" button.
Section Offsets: Adjust the distance from the origin of the section by modifying the offset values in the panel.
Invert Section: You can invert the section by clicking the "Invert Section" checkbox to switch between viewing the inside or outside of the section box.
6. Saving and Reusing Sections
Once you've created a section, you can save it as a viewpoint by clicking on "Save Viewpoint" under the "Viewpoints" tab.
This allows you to return to the same section view at any time.
7. Additional Features
Clipping Planes: You can control the visibility of clipping planes from the "Viewpoint" tab.
Animation: Animate the section planes over time to create section cuts that move through the model, which can be helpful for presentations or visualizations.
8. Sectioning Shortcuts
Toggle Sectioning: You can quickly toggle sectioning on and off using the shortcut Ctrl + 1.
Tips:
Make sure to use sectioning in combination with other tools like Clash Detection to enhance your coordination process.
Use section boxes for a more focused view, especially when dealing with complex models with dense MEP systems.
