About this video: If you want to learn how to add mods to a Minecraft server in 1.21.3, you are in the right place. This video is an in-depth guide on installing mods on a 1.21.3 server. We cover setting up the correct kind of server, adding mods to the server, and finally, joining the server for the first time. We even give you guides on playing modded Minecraft with your friends using the server, so let’s jump into it!

First things first, we will need to download the Forge 1.21.3 server files. There is a link in the description above to download Forge. This will take you to our guide on getting Forge installed locally. Not only are the local Forge files and Forge server at the same location but anyone who joins your server will need have Forge installed locally as well, so you can send them this guide to get that setup.

On this page, click the “Download Forge” button to go to Forge’s official download page. There, select 1.21 and then 1.21.3 on the left-hand side. Under “Download Latest” click on “Installer”, and you will be taken to AdFocus. Wait a few seconds and click the “Skip” button in the top right. The Forge 1.21.3 install will download. This is what we will use to get the server software to add mods to our Minecraft server.

Next, open up the Forge Installer file with Java 21, click Install Client, and click okay. This is installing Forge into Minecraft locally as you will need to play Minecraft with Forge to join your server. After you have done this, click a new folder on your desktop called “Modded Minecraft Server 1.21.3”.

Open the Forge Installer again, and click “Install Server”. A red box will appear. Click the three dots in this red box and navigate to the Modded Minecraft Server folder you created. Select that folder. The red box in the Forge Installer will have disappeared. Click “Install” and all the 1.21.3 modded Minecraft server files will be downloaded.

In your Modded Minecraft Server 1.21.3 folder, there will now be a run.bat file. Double-click on that, and your server will attempt to start. There will now be an EULA.txt file. Open this, and if you agree to Minecraft’s EULA, change “eula=false” to “eula=true”. Save that file.

Now, when you double-click the run.bat file, your modded Minecraft 1.21.3 server will start. How do you add mods to your Minecraft server now that you have the correct server software? Well, it’s actually very easy.

Step one is downloading Minecraft 1.21.3 Forge mods as this is a Forge server and mods for NeoForge and Fabric will not work. With your mods downloaded, add them to the “mods” folder in your Modded Minecraft Server 1.21.3 server. Make sure to restart the server to activate the mods.

You aren’t done yet though. You and anyone else you want to join the server will need to add to your local “mods” folder within the .minecraft folder. All mods must be installed locally and on your server.

How do you join your server though? Well, you can join using the IP address “localhost”.

For your friends to join your modded server, you will need forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. There is a complete guide on port forwarding for your server in the description above. After that, your friends can join your modded Minecraft server using your public IP as long as they have the mods that are installed on the server installed locally as well.

At this point, you now know how to add mods to a Minecraft server in 1.21.3. If you have any questions about how to install mods on a Minecraft server in 1.21.3, let us know in the comments. We will try our best to help you.
