1. Academic job titles. These should not be in your headline because this makes your profile past facing. If you want to get hired in industry your profile needs to be future facing. Instead of academic titles you should be including industry relevant keywords and titles.
2. Your university. You don’t need to include this in your headline or in your professional summary. It just takes up valuable space where you could be putting important keywords. Employers are not searching academic titles or universities to find job candidates.
3. Generic buzz words. This includes words like ‘team player’ ‘dedicated’ or ‘enthusiastic’. These words are too general to have any real meaning, they make you seem lazy and it shows that you did not do your research and look up the keywords that are actually important for the specific position that you are targeting.
