Discounts and Voucher Codes
Discounts are a great way to boost sales on your website. On Shopify, these are set from the discount menu option on the LHS menu. There are two sorts of discounts available
• Discount codes. Codes which you can distribute to your customers to enable them to qualify for a discount
• Automatic discounts. Discount rules are automatically applied at the checkout.

Naming your discount code
Every discount code requires a code which the user must enter to qualify. As this needs to be typed into your site, make it easy to type.
Discount scope
A code can be made available to everyone for all products or a subset of either. The eligibility of a discount can be restricted in the following ways
• Customers. Only available to a specific group of customers or specific customers
• Products. Only useable on a collection of products of a specific product
• Usage limit. Only valid for a certain number of overall uses
• Customer limit. Limit to one use per customer
• Active dates. Limit the validity of the discount by date.
• Minimum purchase amount. Only valid over a specific basket size (by value or number of items)
Types of discount
There are four different types of codes available
• Percentage discount. Get a % off an order
• Money-off. Get a fixed amount off an order
• Free shipping. Get free shipping over a certain basket size
• Buy X get Y. Buy X items get Y items free, or at a discount.
For Buy X get Y, the product in X and Y groups can be selected by collection or individually.
Promoting your discount code
Once your discount code has been created, a link to eligible items is available from the top RHS of the discount code configuration page. You can also see how many times it has been used from this page.
Automatic Discounts
The setup for automatic discounts are the same as voucher codes, except Free shipping is not an option,
To set automatic free shipping is done via the shipping settings in Settings Delivery and Shipping.
