In this video, I have discussed how can you provision AWS Application Load Balancer in front of EC2
An AWS Application Load Balancer (ALB) can be used to distribute incoming traffic across multiple Amazon EC2 instances. Here's an overview of how you can set up an ALB in front of EC2 instances:
1. Launch EC2 instances: Start by launching one or more EC2 instances that will handle your application workload. These instances should be configured and ready to serve traffic.
2. Create an ALB: Go to the AWS Management Console and navigate to the EC2 service. From the EC2 Dashboard, choose "Load Balancers" under "LOAD BALANCING" in the sidebar and click on "Create Load Balancer."
3. Configure the ALB: In the load balancer creation wizard, select "Application Load Balancer" and proceed to configure it. Provide a name, select the appropriate VPC, and choose the availability zones where your EC2 instances are running. Configure the listener to specify the incoming traffic protocol and port.
4. Configure target groups: Next, define one or more target groups for your ALB. A target group represents a logical grouping of EC2 instances that the ALB can route traffic to. You can configure health checks and other parameters for each target group.
5. Register targets: Within each target group, register the EC2 instances that should receive traffic from the ALB. The ALB uses these registered instances to distribute incoming requests.
6. Configure routing rules: Once the target groups are created and the EC2 instances are registered, you can define routing rules for your ALB. These rules determine how incoming requests are distributed among the registered instances. You can use various routing criteria, such as path-based routing, host-based routing, or query string routing, to direct traffic to the appropriate target group.
7. Configure security groups: Make sure to configure the security groups associated with the ALB and EC2 instances to allow inbound traffic on the required ports. You can also enable SSL/TLS termination on the ALB to handle HTTPS traffic.
8. Update DNS: Finally, update your DNS records to point your domain or subdomain to the ALB's DNS name. This ensures that incoming traffic is directed to the load balancer.
Once you have completed these steps, your ALB will start distributing incoming traffic to the registered EC2 instances based on your configured routing rules. This setup helps improve availability, scalability, and fault tolerance for your application running on EC2 instances.
