Adobe Illustrator for Cartographers 42: Exporting from Arcmap
While ArcMap does have some limited ability to do cartography in its system, I find that ArcMap is best just for the scientific portions of the map. I find it too clunky to produce satisfying maps from an artistic perspective. Therefore, I construct only the most basic parts of the map in ArcMap to make sure the science is right, and then export the map out of ArcMap and bring it into Illustrator where all the art of the map is done.
