Like the Prius Prime, the RAV4 Prime employs a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. It’s capable of moving solely on electric power for 39 miles, and it offers up to 90 MPGe in combined driving.
Most shoppers might buy the RAV4 Prime because of those impressive efficiency specs. For the others… there’s the performance aspect.
We scored the 2019 RAV4 Hybrid an 8 out of 10 for performance, but it looks like this one might add to that already impressive score. A 5.8-second sprint to 60 miles per hour comes courtesy of an 83-horsepower jump from the standard hybrid’s output. The big number is now 302 horsepower.
The RAV4 Prime features regenerative braking, the Toyota Safety Sense suite of advanced safety features, and it’s available with a color head-up display. But you won’t find this powertrain in a barebones trim—the RAV4 Prime comes in only SE and XSE trims.
