I took a critical look at the previous 2.5D character controller( • Unreal Engine - 2.5D Platformer chara... ) after the summer. Realized then that the actual platforming is not very fun, so I tried to go back to square one and start with a simple capsule and just try to make it fun to control and use a bunch of common tricks etc. to make it feel good and that the player feels in control.
That means things like you can control the jump height, cache jump presses that happens before the player is on the ground, also a bit of air control so you can "regret" jumps. "Coyote time" when jumping from a ledge a bit late, quick edge grab/climb up if almost making a jump. Dash in mid air, etc.
So it is a bunch of tricks and cheats that helps with the players intent rather than being totally accurate.
Feels quite nice now, but definitely became more arcade:y.
