Before he produced and played on classic albums with D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, The Roots, and others, James Poyser cut his teeth as a staff musician at the famed Philadelphia International Records. In Part 1 of his Questlove Supreme interview, Poyser details a day in the life of this 1980s gig. He recalls working with Lou Rawls, some rules Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff had in place, and his transition toward production. The conversation also includes a revelation about Phonte and candor.
