As part of the Fuqua LinkedIn Live series, Professor David Ridley, faculty director of the Center for Health Sector Management, discussed strategies for promoting innovation in life sciences for diseases found in lower-income countries. Ridley was the lead author of articles proposing voucher programs aimed at encouraging innovations in global health. In 2022, President Biden signed a bill creating EPA vector expedited review vouchers to reward developers for creating new insecticides. Likewise, in 2007, President Bush signed a bill creating FDA priority review vouchers to incentivize drug developers. Under the programs, a developer of an approved product for global health receives a voucher for faster regulatory review of a different product.
