How To Properly Jump Start A Car With Jumper Cables?
HOW TO JUMP START A CAR WITH JUMPER CABLES?
1. Turn off both vehicles.
2. Connect the positive (red) wire to the "+" side of the charged battery.
3. Connect the other end of the wire to the "+" side of the discharged battery.
4. Connect the negative (black) wire to the "-" side of the charged battery.
5. Connect the other end of the black wire to the unpainted bolt on the engine block of the vehicle 30 cm away from the battery. This setup is used because charging lead-acid batteries produce explosive gases, which can be ignited by sparks.
6. First start the car with a good battery and then the one with a dead battery. Let both cars work for a couple of minutes, this way the discharged battery can get some charge.
7. Disconnect the cable in the reverse order: First disconnect the black ends, then the red ones.
Don't let the ends of the cable meet while they are connected to the batteries.
