ISO Sensitivity - don’t ignore this setting!! Improperly set ISO will take viewers out of the moment, and could ruin the credibility of your content. When it is properly set, your footage will turn out better than you could have imagined, preserving deep colours, holding a crisp image and giving each scene a pop!
In this tutorial I explain the ins and outs of ISO.
--------------------------------
MY SETTINGS
I always do my best to keep my ISO at 100.
Some Cameras operate at a different lowest point for ISO such as 200, and some shooters prefer to set their ISO to the "NATIVE" ISO (often ISO 320) as they find that they are happier with the colours that come from those points.
Your Camera ISO is going to be completely different based on your camera model, lenses attached, and Picture Profile/Creative Style.
My typical lowlight shooting profile is:
Cine 2, Color Pro, Black +2
or Cine 4, Colour Pro, Black +4
--------------------------------
DO NOT UNDEREXPOSE :
As the sun goes down, it becomes a struggle to light your scenario, and sometimes you will either have to underexpose, or choose to let grain into your shoot.
You will often have to raise your ISO in Lowlight, unless you have external lighting, even after you open your aperture and slow your shutterspeed.
PRO TIP - Invest in a De-Noiser if you are finding an issue with the amount of grain in your footage!
--------------------------------
DO NOT OVEREXPOSE :
The best way to avoid Over-Exposing is to purchase a Neutral Density (ND) Filter, to act as "Sunglasses" for your lens.
This will keep the highlights low, allowing beautiful clouds and softer skin tones - often ruined from overexposure.
In the daytime and in specfic scenarios at night, you will have to combat against having BOTH too little and too much light at the same time!
In these situations I usually choose to let the highlights overexpose if it is the sky, or something that we can replace in post-production.
