The Talk To Ten rule says:
Don’t build your product before you’ve talked to ten potential buyers.
Here’s the dangerous alternative:
We think we know what to make, so we start to build in isolation.
I’ve done it with several courses that are all pure gold, but never sold.
There’s value in being extremely humble and curious about your customers.
What exactly is their struggle? How do they articulate it? And have they tried to solve it in some way in the past?
The answers inform what you build next, and how you package it: is it going to be a course, a webinar, a workshop, a coaching service, or a book maybe?
You might be an expert in your field, but that’s not enough.
You also need empathy, patience, and humility if you want to build a product that actually fits the market.
