Welcome to Cooper Family Farms’ summertime farmer’s market, where we’ll talk about the different types of breast carcinomas. We start with non-invasive malignancies like DCIS, identified by microcalcifications and central necrosis, and LCIS, often an incidental finding that can lead to invasive cancer. Then we dig into the invasive types: invasive ductal carcinoma, the most common, presenting with a firm, irregular mass; invasive lobular carcinoma, known for its single-file cell arrangement; inflammatory carcinoma with its 'peau d’orange' appearance; medullary carcinoma with sheets of cells and lymphocytic infiltrate; colloid carcinoma with tumor cells in mucin pools; tubular carcinoma with well-formed tubules; and finally, Paget’s disease, which involves erythema and crusting around the nipple due to underlying carcinoma.
