PACE hearing on the "chilling effects" of Julian Assange's detention on human rights
Top legal, academic and NGO experts tease out the implications of Julian Assange's release - and plea deal with US authorities - for other journalists or whistleblowers reporting abuse in the future.
This hearing was held in Strasbourg on Tuesday 25th June as part of a report being prepared for PACE by Icelandic MP Sunna Aevarsdottir. Participants included:
Professor Fionnuala Ni Aolain KC (Hons) of Queen's University in Belfast, a former UN special rapporteur on counter-terrorism and human rights (online)
Rebecca Vincent, Director of Campaigns, Reporters without Borders (online)
Simon Crowther, Legal Adviser to Amnesty International
