For a musical series like ‘Anmol Ratna’, one cannot miss out on a film made by the RK banner. As we all know, in addition to his superb acting and direction skills, the great showman Raj Kapoor was also known for his great taste in music and hence his films presented countless musical gems.
So here is episode 9 of ‘Anmol Ratna’ that revisits the music of four Filmfare Awards winning film ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai’ (1961). The last B & W film produced by Raj Kapoor, this film also marked the directorial debut of Raj Kapoor’s Cinematographer Radhu Karmakar.
It’s hard to believe that the film was earlier planned as a songless film as it dealt with a serious theme of Chambal dacoits and their self-surrendering to the police force. But the distributors insisted that an RK film cannot be made without songs and so like many other RK films, ‘Jis Desh mein Ganga Behti Hai’ also had music by Shankar Jaikishan and lyrics by Shailendra & Hasrat Jaipuri. Along with its famous title song, the film celebrated other musical hits like ‘Mera Naam Raju’, ‘Ho Maine Pyar Kiya’, ‘Begaani Shaadi Mein Abdulla Deewana’, ‘O Basanti Pawan Pagal’ etc. Watch this full episode to find out which song stands out as its ‘Anmol Ratna’.
