Sonic 1 Pixel Perfect was originally a ROM hack demo of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, created by JcFerggy and NovaWizard for the 2008 hacking contest. This build featured new extended layouts and artwork, custom loops and tubes, dynamic palettes for the acts, and a completely new layout for Green Hill Zone (with an edited boss) in its first beta release. This was followed by another brief demo build later in 2008, after which development was permanently halted.
In 2013, another ROM hacker named JK.Fox took the two previous demo builds and decided to complete them as a fully playable Sonic game from start to finish. He added his own artwork, color palette changes, music ports, and cleaned up the ROM by fixing bugs.
