24 species of eagles are found in India
Andaman Serpent Eagle is relatively small, uniformly dark brown with a contrasting bright-yellow bare patch between the eye and the bill found in the Andaman Islands.
Adult Black Eagle appear all dark from a distance, but closer inspection reveals pale barring on the primaries, secondaries, and undertail, as well as a bright yellow bill and feet.
Bonelli's Eagle is medium-sized, athletically proportioned, with a whitish body contrasting with dark wings and tail.
Booted Eagle is a medium-sized buzzard-like raptor with long fingered primary flight feathers, a long square-shaped tail, and feathered legs (boots) prominent when perched.
Changeable Hawk Eagle also known as crested hawk-eagle is a medium-sized eagle with massive rounded wings.
Crested Serpent Eagle is a large, heavily built with a dark, white-tipped bushy crest that gives it a distinctive large-headed look.
Eastern Imperial Eagle is very large; having dark-brown body that contrasts with pale head and nape found in the Central and North India.
Golden Eagle are the most widely distributed species of eagle. In India they are found in the Himalayan region.
Greater Spotted Eagle is large and quite uniform dark brown with very broad wings and short tails.
Grey Headed Fish Eagle is fierce-looking brown-and-white fish-eater. They have a contrasting white belly and white tail with a broad black bar across the tip.
Indian Spotted Eagle is large, with six splayed “fingers” at the wingtip and a pale rump. Adult is rich brown overall with a long gape line that extends behind the eye.
Legge's Hawk Eagle is large, slim with white-tipped crest, streaked gray cheeks, and long feathered legs found in South West of India.
Lesser Fish Eagle is gray-brown with piercing yellow eyes and an immaculate white belly.
Lesser Spotted Eagle is a medium-sized, compact eagle found in the West of India.
Mountain Hawk Eagle are dark brown above with thick brown bars on the belly and vertical black streaks on the throat.
Mountain Serpent Eagle is generally found in the lower altitudes.
Pallas's Fish Eagle have a broad white band on the dark tail found in North and North East of India.
Rufous Bellied Eagle is a handsome small and compact eagle, with a black hood that contrasts with a white throat and rufous belly.
Short Toed Snake Eagle hunts over open areas, spending lots of time hovering with rowing wingbeats into the wind.
South Nicobar Serpent Eagle is very small distinguished by its black crest, pale brown plumage, and completely unmarked underparts found in the Nicobar Islands.
Steppe Eagle is large with rich brown plumage, wide wings, and seven well-splayed “fingers” at the wingtip.
Tawny Eagle has a moderately long gape line that stops at the center of the eye and slit-shaped nostrils.
White Bellied Sea Eagle is an enormous gray and white raptor that soars with wings held in strong V-shape found along the East and West coasts of India.
White Tailed Eagle is a massive raptor with rather long, heavy bill; broad, plank-like wings; and relatively short, graduated tail. Adult has paler brown head and body, white tail, and yellowish bill found in North India.
