Teaching Innovations @IITGN: Ft. Prof Neeldhara Misra
Listen to Prof Neeldhara Misra, Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at IITGN, giving us a glimpse into the Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) course. The data structures course is traditionally a practical course with an emphasis on lab sessions, while the algorithms course typically gets a more theoretical treatment. In her offering, she ensures that algorithmic applications are emphasised when data structures are taught and also emphasises implementations in the algorithms course.
During the pandemic, Professor Misra recalls how she used a modified flipped-classroom approach to teach the DSA-2 course to the students, where the students learned the theory outside the classroom and implemented algorithms during the classes. She used YouTube as a medium to live-stream her classes and also used several other tools such as OBS and Itempool to make it interactive. “It was a fun and interesting experiment for me to teach the course to students in this way. I think this will definitely be a part of my future offerings of the DSA-2 course,” she concludes.
