I got a Kodiak Canvas Truck Tent (model 7206) for my Ford F150 short truck bed to do some late season truck camping this fall and early spring next year.
I've put together some clips from our test setup session and clips from two overnight sessions. One of the great things about this tent model is that this will fit truck beds for most north american half ton trucks from 5 to 6.5 feet truck bed length.
I highly recommend doing a test setup with your tent, especially if you have any accessories like tonneau covers or tool boxes. In my case I had a backrack that would not let the tent to envelope the truck bed 100%. I had to add some pipe insulation to plus a gap between the truck bed and backrack. I am curious how bad weather I need to be in for rain to get in the middle where I could not wrap the canvas. Otherwise it's been great even in windy nights.
Expect the test setup to run about an hour so that you can figure out things. Afterwards expect a 15-20 min setup/ tear down.
Since I had the decked drawer storage system I lost the 5 feet of clearance but 4 feet is good enough. MY other truck accessory that I would have some issue with was with my headache rack made by backrack. Luckily I have the model that has the posts towards the middle, so I was able to wrap the corners in. Otherwise I don't you being able to do the same with another rack.
With that I had a gap between the truck bed and backrack where I simply used a piece of pipe insulation to plug the gap. With the extra fabric of the tent, I used some lightweight spring clamps to pull back the cab tent wall and clip it against the backrack crossbar.
The packed tent comes in two bags where one is a three foot duffel bag for the canvas and a four foot bag for the hardware.
For sleep since I had the DECKED storage drawers, I could not use a camp cot, but I still was able to use my therma rest basecamp large along with a rubbermaid action packer 30 litre bin which matched the height, making for a perfect extention.
Add in a LED string, battery bank and some good sleeping bag & blankets and you are basically set.
I haven't used a propane heater like a My Heater portable buddy to warm up the tent in cold weather. But I did use a honneywell heat bud electric personal heater. At a low 850 btu, this is a good options when you are able to get a services site and I'm sure if you had a 12v battery box this could run for a few hours.
In terms of handling in wind or rain; I found it very stable in brisk winds. The fact that you are drapping the tent over the truck bed, you will always "feel" air move very similar when you have a tarp shelter. Not very noticeable also not a deterrent.
I haven't got stuck in rain yet, but having owned another kodiak canvas product, I feel very confident it will do well.
