In this video we take a comprehensive look at my procedure for backing up and archiving completed Pro Tools sessions. It's critical whenever you finish a project that you have a process in place to ensure that the session is safely backed up and that it will still be accessible in the future.
In my case, the procedure is as follows:
1. Commit audio tracks where required
2: Create a copy of the session and its audio with Save Copy In
3: Compact audio in order to reduce overall data size
4: Move the session to at least 3 archive locations
5: Check that the archived sessions actually work
6: Reference the backed up sessions in a Catalog so it can easily be located in the future
7: Once all of the above have been done, delete the orignal session from the work drive
It's important to understand that different people will have different requirements for session backup and archiving but this is my process and I it's one which I have so far found to be robust.
