The most common question I get from subscribers at http://www.andrewmercer.ca is, "How can I make my voice sound louder and fuller when I record." For most singers this is because they are not getting close enough to the microphone. When standing too far away your mic will need to work much harder to pick up your voice. Also the mic will record much more room noise, making your voice sound less clear.
You need to explore with distances from your mic. Try standing 4 inches from the mic, record your self and listen back. Next move 6 inches from the mic and repeat the process. Compare the two recordings and see which you like best.
You will also need a pop filter to keep your plosives from clipping in your recording. See my other video in on pop filters for information on pop filters.
