Kotlin: How the Language Support in IntelliJ IDEA Evolved
We’ll highlight the main milestones of how the Kotlin language has become a first-class citizen in IntelliJ IDEA and what we needed to do to support the language in our IDE. But more importantly – what feedback it gave us, what lessons we learned, and what positive changes in IntelliJ IDEA itself have been made on this path.

Bio:
Volodya Dolzhenko
Volodya completed his studies at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 2005. Over the last 15 years, he has played many different roles, from software developer to assistant vice-president on the JVM development market, including stints at well-known companies like Deutsche Bank and Elastic. Volodya now works as Tech Lead in the IntelliJ Kotlin team.
Anton Yalyshev
Anton graduated from the State University of Aerospace Instrumentation in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 2011 and has since worked on quality assurance of software development tools both as an engineer and a team lead. He helped develop the QA infrastructure for Delphi and C++Builder IDEs. He is currently the IntelliJ Kotlin product manager at JetBrains.
