Tarring and feathering is a form of public humiliation and punishment that involves covering a person with hot tar and then applying feathers to the tar, causing the feathers to stick to the person’s skin. This punishment was famously used during the American Revolution against tax collectors and others who were perceived to be loyal to the British Crown.
