Eight soldiers were injured by an improvised explosive in the Philippines early on Friday (January 24).
A KM-450 truck carrying Filipino army soldiers triggered a landmine in Makilala town in North Cotabato during a patrol at around 12:45 a.m. The improvised bomb, believed to be a landmine, was planted by communist guerrillas from the New People's Army.
Injured soldiers were transported to Kidapawan Hospital for treatment.
Army patrolling has intensified in the area since intelligence reports revealed that the New People's Army planned to resume attacks on local communities.
Last September the New People's Army attacked a Standard Rubber Development Corporation rubber plantation and killed its manager, inflicting 20 million Philippine pesos worth of damage.
Nine soldiers were killed and six others were wounded in landmine attacks by the New People's Army in Tulunan and Makilala last October.
