Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) are characterized by clonal proliferation of one or more hematopoietic lineages, predominantly in the bone marrow but sometimes in liver & spleen. The acquired mutations result in disordered haematopoiesis. There is a terminal myeloid cell expansion into the peripheral blood. MPNs include Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia (CML) - BCR-ABL1 fusion gene positive; Chronic Neutrophilic Leukemia; Chronic Eosinophilic Leukemia; Polycythemia vera (PV) - JAK2 V617F gene positive; Essential thrombocythemia (ET); Mastocytosis; Unclassifiable MPNs. This panel aids in diagnosis and classification of specific MPNs in conjunction with cytogenetic testing.
