My brain couldn't comprehend what I was looking at when I first saw them in the distance. There were so many. Maybe 500. Maybe 1000. Maybe more. I had been wanting to hike the full length of the dune and find this colony for many years. I finally got my chance so I bought my discovery pass and woke up at 4:30am. I wanted to get to the end of the Kelly's Beach Boardwalk at sunrise and I did. Not the most spectacular sunrise but nice enough, and coupled with the amazing location it was magical.
The seals were fun to watch diving into the water and waddling back into the group. Some of them looked so comfortable just lying there in the morning sun and sand, giving me an occasional glance to make sure I wasn't a threat. A experience I won't forget for a long time.
