The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is a dependent, non-autonomous, permanent, and constitutionally established federal body responsible for:

Organizing and conducting elections to the:
National Parliament (National Assembly)
Provincial Legislatures
Local Governments
Office of the President of Pakistan
Delimitation of constituencies
Preparation of electoral rolls


How it works:

The ECP is currently structured as follows:

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC):
Currently, Sikandar Sultan Raja holds this position.

Four Members:
Each retired judge from the High Courts of the four provinces (Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa)

Key Functions:
Registration of political parties and voters:
The ECP maintains and updates electoral rolls by registering eligible voters and political parties.

Conducting elections:
The ECP oversees the entire election process, including:
Setting election dates
Issuing election schedules
Scrutinizing nomination papers
Announcing results

Delimitation of constituencies:
The ECP periodically revises the boundaries of electoral constituencies based on population changes.
Deploying polling staff and security personnel
Conducting polling
Counting votes

The 2024 General Elections in Pakistan were held on February 8th, 2024, electing members to the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.

Total Number of Registered Voters:
128,585,760, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Voter Turnout:

Estimates vary due to the absence of official numbers from the ECP:Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN):
Estimates around 47%, with approximately 60 million casting their votes.



Results:

National Assembly:

Total Seats: 342 (272 direct + 60 reserved for women + 10 for minorities)
No party secured a majority.
Current breakdown: PTI-backed independent candidates: 101 seats
PML-N: 73 seats
PPP: 54 seats
MQM: 17 seats
Other parties and independents: 97 seats (including PTI 0, JI 4, JUI-F 4, BAP 2, MWM 1, NP 1, BWP 1, PML-Q 3, ANP 1)
