Enter the misty forests of Kauai's high-elevation Alakai Swamp with Dr. Lisa "Cali" Crampton and photographer and author Jim Denny where they introduce you to surviving species of the extraordinary honeycreeper. These descendants of a distant finch ancestor exploded into Kauai's dense mountain forests after being blown across the Pacific in the distant past. Only six of an estimated 16 species remain, their decline caused mainly by illnesses varied by mosquitoes that were introduced to the islands by humans.
